RISK21 Training Workshop in Ecuador

February 18–20, 2026
HESI Global, via the Global Risk Assessment Training Center (GRATC) supported a RISK21 training workshop hosted by the National Agency for Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control (Agrocalidad) in Quito, Ecuador.

The workshop brought together 35 technical professionals from Agrocalidad involved in pesticide registration and surveillance, along with agency leadership. The training aimed to strengthen technical capacity in chemical risk assessment and risk management by introducing the RISK21 framework, which provides a transparent and structured approach for integrating exposure and toxicity information to support regulatory decision-making.

Through a combination of conceptual presentations and hands-on case studies, participants explored key elements of modern risk assessment, including problem formulation, exposure and toxicity characterization, and risk communication, while gaining practical experience with the RISK21 matrix and web-based tool. The workshop was organized as a follow-up capacity-building activity from the TEA Committee Meeting held during the SETAC Latin America in Peru last year to promote modern, exposure-driven approaches to pesticide risk assessment across regulatory agencies in the region.
